‘Aargh...’ he groaned. Panic struck him at once. Drowsiness from the
quick nap was snatched away without delay. His eyes shut once more from
the pain. He trembled like a baby.
However, there was no time for the pain to pass. The creature
continued to strike. Its black and furry head rushed towards Leonardo’s
neck. Its razor-sharp teeth perforated his skin. Leonardo could not scream
anymore. Little holes on his throat made it sound faultier. He could not
think. He reached out for his double-edged spear, and stabbed it into the
bear’s eyes, again and again. The monster stepped back in rage. It wept,
with tears of blood shedding down its furious face. Red painting beast’s
            face.
‘Roar!’ the bear cried in fury. It breathed heavily, readying its position
to charge. It straightened up its hind legs and focused its weight on its
forelegs, trying to jump forward. Pitifully, the blind creature was charging
in the wrong direction. It raged, thundering to Leonardo. Leonardo was
startled, and could not move. He was shaking so hard that he could not get
to his feet. The blood kept flowing and Leonardo lost consciousness. The
bear growled impatiently, but soon lost interest.
Flakes of snow gradually fell on Leonardo. It was the start of another
day already. Sunshine managed to squeeze through the thick layer of leaves
again. He knew that it was the opportunity for him to escape. Neglecting
his wounds, he ran as fast as he could. He scrambled, using his spear as a
crutch. He gasped, and took a step forward. Soon, his legs were too weak.
Blood kept draining away as the wounds were not treated. He fell and
closed his eyes. Could he give up? There was little hope. But no. Lisa was
still waiting for him to return home. What would Lisa do if she lost him?
